What is a "Dunderhead"?:
The term "Dunderhead" was coined in 2005 to represent a fan of TV's THE OFFICE. In particular, the NBC Version of The Office's International Television Franchise. Inspired by TV Fans such as the Trekkies of Star Trek whom had their own identity, Office fans were often described by dozens of different inconsistent terms. Taking a cue from the Grateful Dead fans called the Dead Heads, and inspired by The Office's TV fictional name "Dunder Mifflin", the word "Dunderhead" was born! Actually, it was reborn with it's new meaning. Originally defined by the dictionary to mean: "Dunce", the term "Dunderhead" was outfitted with it's new definition to mean: "Office Fan" in 2005 by Dunderhead Nation creator, and long time Office fan blog contributor Gary Dunn (a.k.a. "Bobblehead Gary") of Columbus Georgia USA. Although he and his immediate fan friends used the term often on all of the major blogs and fansites, the term was not accepted easily at first by the Office Fan Community. It wasn't until Angela Kinsey adopted the term that the word "Dunderhead" finally began to gain momentum. Taking her cue from the fans on her myspace who used "Dunderhead" routinely to describe themselves, Angela and her fellow castmates began using the term to greet and describe their fans in early 2006. The word began to stick. Soon, major TV Bloggers, as well as the fans themselves adopted the term. Today, the term "Dunderhead" is the accepted name for Office fans. It is a mocking, jokingly self deprecationg, fun, and endearing term to the fans that use it to describe themselves. You'd have to have that sort of sense of humor in the first place to be an Office fan. Fans understand the double-meaning, and it's humor and yet still love it. Although the term was coined by a fan, and became viral by the actual fandom, today the term "Dunderhead" is also the accepted term used by the television show staff, and NBC UNIVERSAL itself. NBC has even issued "Dunderhead" products for fans. TV Entertainment Shows, Newspapers, Entertainment Blogs, TV News,
Department Stores, Internet Online Shopping Sites etc., all now use "Dunderhead" to describe Office Fans! Not since the "Trekkies" of Star Trek has there been such a tight knit fandom as is the Dunderhead Community. Meetings, Conventions, Trade Shows, Fan Fairs, etc. have all been places where Dunderheads have convened. Now we all have the same type of community to meet, share, explore and LOVE the Office! Right here! On the Dunderhead Nation Social Network! Why not start your own profile today?
